My first time in the Bicol region. I was in second-year high school when I attended Camp Penafrancia, the national encampment of the Girl Scouts of the Philippines during the Penafrancia Festival in September 1978.
It took us more than two hours by boat from Calapan to Batangas City, another two hours by bus from Batangas to Lucena City, and 10 long hours by train from Lucena City to Naga City. Who wouldn't get dizzy with this long trip? But that was immediately replaced with the feeling of being in Bicolandia and being part of the festival for the very first time.
