The first quarter of 2010 is almost over. The days passed by so quickly maybe because I was preoccupied with so many things that really tested my character and values in life.
How did I manage my time? After reporting back to work in January, my hands had been full in trying to catch up with classes and reports to prepare. That's what I got after having recharged for two months. More work.
How's my patience? It's true. Patience is long-suffering. My patience was stretched to its limit as I worked on my complaint to Delta Air for the extra ticket charged to my credit card account. That's on top of what we experienced during check-in on our way back to Manila last December. Imagine the agony of being told that our tickets were suspended and we could only check in by purchasing new tickets or delaying our return flight. And my complaint has not been resolved until now.
How did I value my material possessions? I lost my cellphone at the airport prior to my flight to Leyte with Lina in January. It was my negligence. I didn't remember that my phone was on top of my backpack when I used the restroom. Gone in less than three minutes. Twenty days after I bought a new one, it was lost again. This time our house was robbed on February 25 between 1:00 to 3:00 a.m. Bobby, my son Cyril and I were sleeping then. We only discovered it when we woke up in the morning. Gone were two laptops, two digicams, the 20-day cellphone, and my wallet containing various IDs, credit and ATM cards, and some cash. After realizing what had happened, I just told Bobby and Cyril that we had to be thankful because we were safe. One, if not all of us, could have been hurt or worst, killed if we had confronted the robbers right there and then.
Life is much more important than material possessions.
How did I react to trying situations? I usually cry. There were times when I had to be strong and I just resolved to think something positive about the situation. It was tough to see my son crying because he did not pass the UPCAT. It was as though the whole world stopped spinning for him. Surprisingly, I did not cry after we learned about the robbery incident. I just comforted myself with God's promises.
The first quarter was quite stressful but God's grace did not fail me. I am reminded of how a diamond is subjected to so much stress to attain the desired brilliance and character. God is not finished with me yet.
